Jan 12, 2019. #1. Our new Samsung TV works fine on wireless. We want it wired. The wire is in right, lights on router are green. We tested the wire and it works. When we go to settings and choose wired, it fails. We have manually put in the IP, subnet and gateway. We tried setting DNS to 8.8.8.8.
Reset your router. To do this, power it on and then press and hold the reset button (somewhere on the router, you have to find it) for about 10 seconds, untill you see it all blinking. Then check you are using the right ethernet cables. You may already be using crossover cables instead of normal ethernet cables.
Rule out a loose NIC port by shaking the NIC cable while it is still connected at both ends. Determine whether your laptop's NIC LEDs change when moving the cable. If they do, and you know that the cable is working fine on another laptop, then you must contact Dell Support to report a hardware issue. If they do not, then go to the next section.

If you can connect to the internet through an Ethernet cable but not through the wireless network, it means that your router is not emitting a signal that is strong enough. In this case, you can fix the problem by pressing and holding the WiFi On/Off button on the router for around 2 seconds.
Download the appropriate LAN driver to your laptop. Use flash drive to transfer LAN driver file to your computer. Go to device manager and find your Ethernet Device under Network Adapters. Click update drivers and then click Browse my computer for Drivers. Go to the uncompressed LAN driver file you just downloaded.
